Why we limited the free plan to certain countries

In short: free Minecraft servers are available in 40 countries instead of everywhere. Paid plans haven't changed and work in every country.

What changed

In April 2025 we stopped offering the free Minecraft plan worldwide. It's now available in 40 countries: the EU, the UK, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore.

Why we did it

The free plan got more popular than our hardware and our support team could keep up with. Machines ran hotter than we liked, tickets waited longer, and performance started to differ from one region to the next. Some regions also saw far more abuse, which takes people and time to police.

We could have spread the same resources thinner. We'd rather run a smaller free plan properly.

Is it permanent?

We don't want it to be. As we add locations and grow the team, we plan to open the free plan to more countries again, a few at a time.
