Free servers run in Europe. Open to players in 40 countries.
Free servers run on the same control panel as paid ones. These are the tools you can use from the day you sign up.
Search plugins on Hangar, SpigotMC and Modrinth, and mods on Modrinth and CurseForge, without leaving the panel. Modpacks from CurseForge, Modrinth, Feed The Beast and Technic set up the right loader and version for you.
Start, stop and restart, run commands with autocomplete, and follow chat in its own tab.
Change server.properties and plugin configs with syntax highlighting, drag in worlds and datapacks, or connect over SFTP with your own client.
Save a modded world and a vanilla SMP as separate instances on the same server, then switch between them when your group changes its mind.
Handle ops, the whitelist and bans, look inside a player's inventory, and upload or download worlds whenever you like.
Attacks are filtered before they reach your server, and you can add your own firewall rules on top.
Give friends a name to type instead of an IP address and port.
For a web map, a voice chat plugin or the Bedrock port Geyser needs.
For plugins like LuckPerms and CoreProtect that work better with a real database.
Friends get their own login, limited to the permissions you choose.
Pull a whole server across over FTP or SFTP instead of uploading it by hand.
It's free because it sleeps. An empty server still takes up memory on our machines. Stopping it while nobody is playing is how we can give everyone 2.5 GB for free, and it's the main thing you give up compared with a paid plan.
The world is saved as it stops, so your builds, plugins and settings are exactly where you left them next time.
They type your server's name into our Start Server page and it boots. They don't need an account, and they never see yours.
While players are online, the server may ask in chat if you're still there, no more than once every three hours. Click the link within 30 minutes and carry on. It stops AFK servers holding memory someone else could be playing on.
There's no plan to compare and nothing to pay, so it's a short list.
An email address and a password. There's no payment step.
Name your server and choose the address your friends will type.
Vanilla, Paper, Fabric, Forge, a modpack or Bedrock. You can switch later.
Friends paste it into Multiplayer and join.
Java or Bedrock, vanilla or modded: there are 23 server types to choose from. You can switch type or Minecraft version from a dropdown in the panel, snapshots included.

Faster than vanilla, and they load Bukkit and Paper plugins. Paper is the usual pick for an SMP.
For mods from Modrinth and CurseForge, whether that means a few performance tweaks or Create.
Hybrid servers load Forge mods and Bukkit plugins side by side, handy when a modded world still needs a permissions plugin.
For friends playing on phones, consoles or the Windows version of the game.
Add Geyser to a Java server and Bedrock players can join the same world as everyone on PC.
Most small servers fit with room to spare. Large modpacks are where the free plan runs out of memory, so here's roughly where the line is.
Survival with friends on Vanilla, Paper or Purpur, including the usual plugins like EssentialsX, LuckPerms and WorldEdit. Bedrock servers fit too.
Fabric or Forge with a moderate mod list works. Pre-generate your world and keep the view distance sensible, so the memory goes to your players.
Packs with hundreds of mods usually want 6 GB or more. A paid plan gives you that, with more CPU to go with it.
See paid plansStart on free and keep an eye on the RAM graph in the panel. If it sits near 2.5 GB while people play, a paid plan will feel a lot smoother.
We filled this in from the other big free hosts' public pages in March 2026. If something has changed, tell us on Discord and we'll update the table.

When the server gets busy, move it to a paid plan. The files, worlds and settings come with it, so nobody has to start over.

Yes. There's no trial that runs out, and we never ask for payment details. You get a smaller server instead: 2.5 GB of RAM, one server per account, and it sleeps when nobody is on.
Only while people are playing. It stops 10 minutes after the last player leaves, and anyone who knows the server name can start it again from our Start Server page. Paid servers stay on until you stop them.
2.5 GB of shared RAM, with one CPU core and 10 GB of NVMe storage. That runs a vanilla or Paper server for a group of friends comfortably. Big modpacks need a paid plan.
Usually not. When a free machine is busy, new starts wait their turn in a short queue so the servers already running stay smooth. Paid servers never queue.
That's the activity check. While players are online, the server may ask in chat, no more than once every three hours. Click the link within 30 minutes and keep playing.
Yes, all three. Plugins come from Hangar, SpigotMC and Modrinth, mods from Modrinth and CurseForge, and modpacks from CurseForge, Modrinth, Feed The Beast and Technic. Very large modpacks need more than 2.5 GB, so check the guide above first.
Yes. Create a Bedrock server, or run Java and add Geyser so players on phones and consoles can join your Java world.
In our data centres in Europe. Players in other regions can still join, with higher ping. Paid plans let you pick a location closer to your players.
Players in most of Europe, the United States and Canada, Australia and New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore. Our blog post on the free plan explains why we limited it.
Your world stays where it is. After a long break, the first start takes a little longer than usual while we get your files ready.
Yes. Zip the world folder and upload it in the file manager, then set it as the level in server.properties. If your old host offers FTP or SFTP, the importer can copy the whole server across for you.
Free servers get help in our Discord, where staff and other server owners answer questions. Paid plans add ticket support.
Make an account and your server is ready before your friends have finished downloading the modpack.
“Good UI, and runs pretty well for free server hosting, better than aternos anyway.”
“Literally the best server hoster on earth! I hosted a whole school smp on this!”
